BYC Café

The flowers that I have planted here are spring bulbs and perennials. Daffodils, daylilies, lilacs. My energy goes into the vegetable garden.

My grandma grew a lot of roses. Crimson Glory was her favorite. I've stayed away from them because I know I wouldn't keep up with all the care, and I'd hate to have crappy looking roses.

We do have some wild flowers (and wild roses) that have come in. Woodland phlox and geranium, and dame's rocket. Oh, lest I forget to mention... dandelions and Queen Anne's lace. The latter is why I can't grow carrots to seed. They readily cross and revert back to tough, dry roots.
I have a couple of big raised beds for veggies, and really enjoy that. It's easier for me because everything gets tossed out in fall and replanted in spring. No need to weed around perennials or split them or winterize anything. The flower beds are another story!

This will be our second summer in this new home and we had so much cleanup to do when we first moved in. The previous owners left their garbage everywhere! It was so disgusting, not to mention hazardous. Broken glass, screws, not to mention all the tires and large crap they left. So we did a lot last year as far as garbage cleanup and reclaiming all the areas that were overgrown. All that to say I just had one single potted flower on my porch for a little color.
I figure If I can just make a few improvements here or there every year, it'll be a magnificent place in about 10 years. 😃
And yes, gardening is so therapeutic.
Clean up is the hardest work of all! Just take your time and enjoy, and don't worry about things being perfect, if there even is such a thing. It's all about the process.

Love the colour of this blue pot :love
I have these on the deck. There's a matching set on the other side of the stairs.
