BYC Café

It's going to be pushing 90 today. I am changing some pond plumbing and working to get the waterfall finished today.
Oh, to have 15 of your degrees... high of 56 here. I want to get some more painting done, and need it to be at least 50. That 56 will probably be late in the day, and we might get more rain.

I can paint stuff in the garage... just have to lay a bunch of newspapers out so I don't drip on the floor. So much easier to just do it out on the lawn.

Still kinda chilly for paint to cure, isn't it?
Did you get that storm last night?

Yes, and yes.

Thinking I'll let it sit in the garage until it's dry to the touch, then bring it in the house. DH is gone, so I can put stuff anywhere. He took Freya with him to NC, so the whole house is available for me to spread out my projects.

I just have to put them away by next Wednesday. :gig

Good morning! Still breezy and cold, 18F, but I think warming up a bit today. I will take anything above freezing.
I hang my laundry out when I can.
DH and I brought home an older chicken coop/run thing that needs a bit of repair and then chickens, of course. It is still in the truck but we will get to it when it is above that freezing mark, lol.
Enjoy the day, Cafe!

Good morning. I am here with a fresh pot of coffee in hand. Gonna sit and relax a bit today.
I am still predominantly brown haired, but have noticeable grey. I've thought about dying my hair... purple. Or teal. Or both. I'll never dye my hair brown "to cover the grey." If I ever dye it, I'm going wild.
Do it and post pictures.

Oh, I would, for sure. But don't hold your breath. :)

I worked with some young ladies who had pink or green or turquoise hair. After the initial, "wow... that looks ... interesting..." I got to the point of, "hey... that looks... cool! really cool!"

They told me that before the color is applied, ALL of their natural color has to be bleached out. That's the part that gives me pause. It's gotta be hard on the hair.

If I do it, I will spend the bucks and have it done by a professional.

Seems to be holding. Just not pulling from the bottom drain because it's taking the path of least resistance. So I'm rigging it up so I can run either the skimmer or the bottom drain.
Can you put in valves so you can adjust how much water goes through each pipe? Our stupid pool had a guillotine valve in the bottom drain line so I can decide how much should come from it and how much from the skimmer. There is also a 4 way valve at the pump. Bottom only, skimmer only, both open, both closed.

That is basically what I'll have. There is a knife valve (guillotine) in the line from the BD to the settling tank and I'm putting a quarter turn ball valve over the check valve that pulls out of the skimmer.

I had to go to a plumbing supply shop in the area to have them order a 2" PVC socket ball valve. The ones that are already installed in my pond plumbing I had ordered from Supply House.com. Great site. I also ordered lots of the fittings I need to replumb all my house drains out to the septic. Nice quality and better prices than the big orange and blue stores. The valve won't come in until Monday so I'm just going to wait and modify the lines all at the same time then.

My lilies and some marginal plants arrived today so I switched gears and planted them, donned my waders and hopped in the pond to set the lilies. I planted them in cat litter pans and set them on stacked black plastic crates with huge holes in them for flow. I had to weigh the crates down with a couple of big rocks in them.

This pond is deeper than the last pond I built.
I did not grow taller nor did my waders go higher on my body.
Suffice it say that when I bent down a wee bit too far to position a lily pot, my waders began to fill with 60 degree water. 🥶

Not a busy day, tomorrow it's getting close to 60, and waiting to put out the squash starts. My Cali Gray hen has not laid since last November, she is 2 years old. She will sit in the nest box for a while like she going to, and then she back out in the run. no egg. Started a couple of hop plants last spring, and they came back and are about 1 foot already this spring. time for my second cup.
