BYC Café

We don’t gut before filleting, exactly. I don’t quite know how to explain the process, since I’m not the one doing it. Sometimes we cut the heads off and leave the fish whole - that’s where the scraper comes in really handy. Also, the eggs from the sockeye (red) salmon are saved to make bait for the coho (salmon) so we scrape the eggs out of the reds before completely cutting the fillet off. I guess it’s easier to get them that way. The fillet itself has a membrane on the rib cage that comes off best with the scraper/spoon.
Yeah, I guess if you are harvesting the egg sacs you'd have to slice the belly.
I only fished panfish.

Speaking of gutting I have about 30 roosters on process row. That's a lot of gutting to do. It's be to hard to cut into pieces without gutting first. I haven't fished in a long time. So long I'm not sure how I handled it. I can gut them to if need be. Some fish were cleaned one way and some another. Depended on size and how they were to be cooked. One thing was for sure, the head came off.

Good morning Café. Coffee is ready.
I texted in sick today. Don't know if it's a vaccine reaction or if I was brewing something and the vaccine kicked it over. I didn't sleep much, my head is all plugged up, I'm exhausted and have a mild cough. Mostly from the post nasal drip.

Woke to a nice rain,
Same here. I think this will finally put the fire out. You could still see a wisp of smoke every now and then in a couple of piles in the basement. :th

DH wants to get some kind of ramp set up in case an animal falls or inadvertently jumps down in. Mice could crawl up the cement walls, but a deer couldn't. Or maybe the smell keep them out until after it's covered with snow?

Morning. We got about 1/2” of rain overnight. DH is at a standstill for harvest right now as it’s too wet. He has about 120 acres to go. He’s talked to a neighbor about finishing up when the neighbor is done with his own corn. The neighbor has rear wheel assist on his combine. (DH explained to me that that’s like 4WD on a pickup.) Or, DH can get back out there once the ground freezes hard enough so he doesn’t get stuck. (As the official puller-outer when he does get stuck, I’m fine with either of these options.)

Have a great Thursday, everyone!

This is going to take some fixing. The net is so badly torn up I'll probably have to buy another section. The birds will have to stay locked up.
