BYC Café

I felt that all the crowing boys out there were missing notes. So I sat in the chair outside the run and played LOUD rooster crowing sounds... they all ran for cover under the nearest bush with the exception of 2 curious boys who stuck around and listened. I had too much fun watching their reactions.

Mom and kids are doing great. I opened the slider to the ward so she can take them out tomorrow if she wants. It's supposed to be terribly hot so I want Astrid to go where she thinks is best.

I let Widget out of the broody crate late this afternoon. She's still making her pre-broody noise: bup-bup-bup-bup.

I closed off the nest boxes. I hope to see her on the roost with the other ladies in a few minutes.

Really, Widget... it's too hot for you to be in the crate or sitting in a nest box.
Have you tried dunking her belly in cool water throughout the day? I've found that helps a lot when it gets really hot. I also have them near a floor fan to help cool them off.

Good morning, and thanks for the coffee.
@sourland, you already said, but I forgot... when is your great-grand daughter due to make an appearance?
Mid September.

Last night kicked back in my chair to watch the news. Kicked off my slippers - Tootsie picked one up, carried it to her bed, and slept on it. Shades of Miss Maggie Mae. :(

Good Morning

Coffee is ready and the air is cold, so cold. Anyhow winter will be over soon, we are already in 2/3 of winter. August is just simply windy, warm during the day and freezing cold at night and early morning.

Usually my mango trees start to grow flowers about now, then August wind ruins most of it, then fruits start to show about October. Now there is not a thing on my mango trees. Too much rain mango also rotted from inside out, it happened these last few years.

Yesterday there was no rain:bow

I do love broody hen's behaviour, they are so cute, a bit grumpy, balloon up with their feather and walk side way, so cute and funny.

My little Japanese bantam hen - Agent L is so tired of living lately that she, every day pick a fight with the Wyandotte, and my dogs.
She fluff up, walking the warrior walk and getting ready to charge forward, we laugh so much for seeing her tiny body fighting a giant hen, we pick her up as soon as she was about to charge to her death.😄 She still push forward for the attack while we were holding her.

Agent L is super naughty, she fights her mother, her auntie, beat up her sister, pick a fight with my dogs and the big Wyandottee. She just like my Chihuahua I had many moons ago.😄

DL, I can imagine how cute and funny your baby roosters are listening to the loud rooster crow. Chickens bring so much joy and laughters.

It is a motto for me that "Life is good with chickens"😄❤️

Have a great day all.

Tell that to Amelia, Astrid's best friend.
Normally Astrid doesn't mind the hens around her chicks. I have learned today that those rules do not apply when the chicks are this young. Amelia wasn't paying any attention whatsoever to the chicks in the coop and Astrid just about took her head off! That girl is a force to be reckoned with when she wants you away from her chicks.

Amelia learned it first hand, she definitely do not think it funny like I do. 😄 Oh..my other hen, got to love mother hen, her devotion, absolute attention, I love it to have mother hen and chicks. ❤️❤️
