BYC Coffee House

i had a pretty good day myself. I made some repairs on the coup an cleaned it a little. The broody hen in there complained the entire time while I was fixing the coup up but I am sure she likes the fact that i put a lip on the front of her box so she won't have to fight with the nest spilling out

I could really use a large decaf iced hazelnut coffee

I finally finished my cooplex...a duplex coop made from a 4x4x8 shipping crate. Just have to do the 2 runs tomorrow after church...my polish bantams are going to be thrilled ( I hope

Yesterday, as always, was a working, but fun day. I woke up at 4:30 a.m. (as always

), milked the goats and came in for Cycling. On the ride, with My father, and Symphony

, we were going on a 34.5 mile ride, and on the way out, we were cruising around 20 mph. However, on the way back we the winds picked up, and we were in a nasty head wind. I started leading at 17-19 mph, and my father was griting his teeth, and Symph was fine. (after all she wasn't pulling) Anyway, I tried to keep the pace high so we could get home and watch the last 20km's of a TDF stage. The pace was so hard for my father, that he lost contact from my wheel. So I slowed down. We eventually came home in time, not for the last 20km, but the last 25km's of the stage.

As always on saturdays, I made ice cream for sunday.

It's funny how DH will complete a project when I light a fire under him! I found out that my father and his wife will be coming to stay with us on Wednesday, and the room they will be staying in is where the brooder is. Truly, the chicks could have gone out almost 3 weeks ago, and I've been asking him to help me with a coop starting when I had the eggs in the 'bator. So, today we scoured the yard for items to make a new grow-out coop out of. We just can't see spending money on a coop that we could make with found materials. We decided on a kitchen island my MIL gave us a few years ago. It made the perfect hutch-style coop for the babies. We placed it in the large run and created a smaller run attached to the coop, so the babies could safely mingle with their mamas until they're ready to join the flock.

Now I just have to do some major dusting in the room where my father will be staying. Other than that, I'm super-pumped for his visit!

I love re-purposing. I have found small nightstands that have worked well as nesting boxes, small animal cages (guinea pigs), or even brooders. I even got stuff that the local mini-golf was getting rid of to use in coop building.
