Hello everyone!
We are a family of 5 that just got 7 baby chicks a few weeks back.... 3 EE pullets, 1 "brown egg layer" we are really hoping to be a barred rock and 3 "rare breed mix" pullets. So exited to see what they grow into!
We live in a small town so won't have more than 4-10 hens at a time. Our accidental roos will be rehomed to a family members acreage
We had 6 3yo hens that were friendly great layers that we raised. 2 of the sweetest barred rocks you'll ever meet, 2 RIR sassy gals, 1 pushy EE, and 1 broody black thing. Unfortunately we lost them all within a couple weeks from 2 separate incidents...1)a loose hunting dog had too much fun when he climbed into the fence and 2) a suspected coyote.
We are ready to try again with a more predator proof set up.
Meet our chicks, now 3-4 weeks old:
EE 1 - Caramel
EE 2 - Shovey
EE 3 - Omletta "letti"

? Barred Rock- Midnight

Orange-ish mystery rare breed- Nugget

Black-red mystery rare breed- Garnet

White/yellow/little black coming in mystery rare breed with fuzzy feet- Valence "Val"

A must have for your poultry is a FIRST AID KIT for any issues that would arise. (https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/suggestions-for-a-first-aid-kit.1150128/)
It's definitely better to have it and not need it rather than need it and not have it.

Also, make sure your coop(s) have a proper amount of VENTILATION. (https://www.backyardchickens.com/ar...-there-and-cut-more-holes-in-your-coop.47774/) Your chickens will absolutely thank you for it!
