BYC KNITTING CLUB

I can remember my mama having me sit and hold her yarn between both my hands so she could wind it in a ball. I've put mine on the back of a chair and wound it that way.

I had a skein winder, but it broke, so I am back to using my feet/knees. It works pretty well. Have also done the back of a chair.

Just wanted to pop on & wish you all a Merry Christmas / Happy Hannukah / Fabulous Festivus / Solstice / Season!
Thanks for all your help, kindness & inspiration.

Did we all get our Holiday knitting done? I got pretty close & will finish tonight (last few weeks of work were crazy cakes), then I get to start to re-make my favorite sweater - Norah Gaughan's Tilted Duster - which some girl took while I was playing a gig last year. It will be a different color but, since I have made & re-made it once the first time I knit it, it should go pretty fast & come out nicer than the last two times.

(This one will have a label that says "Hand Knit by: " and my email address in it, as will all my hand knits from now on.)

What does everyone plan to knit in the New Year?

Thanks WW, the yarn is just Cascade 220.

I used to use the same knee technique. I couldn't quite put it into words last night though.

Baustin, I used to be my Grandma's skein holder ... now I have all her fiber art stuff (with a few things I don't have clue what they are used for: like a set of 12" steel DPN with sharp points (sharp as in could draw blood sharp))

Yes, mkitchen, finished up the last of my Christmas knitting & spinning last night.

Annie,
That first yarn is definitely hand spun and skeined. They 2nd yarn is already balled.

Re yarn shop owner: maybe she was having a bad sales day/week/month/year and wondering if she'll have to be closing. Hundreds of small yarn shops close every year. As for the price of the yarns you bought, $27 is nice purchase amount. If you were buying my hand spun yarn, $30 would have gotten you a 2-ply 200 yard worsted weight loose skein. Yup, it is expensive for yarn, but in reality, it is paying the fiber artist squat for the time, talent & materials.

It's a good thing I spin, because I couldn't afford myself!!! LOL

Merry Christmas everyone!

Merry Christmas and blessings for the New Year. Pray for Peace on Earth.
I will be finishing a drop stitch scarf using Berroco Souffle today. It is very soft. Going quickly on #13 needles. Celebrating with family next week so I can still Christmas knit.

We went to my daughter in laws house for Christmas Eve dinner, which is an hour and a half drive from here, and had a marvelous ham dinner with all the trimmings. We didn't get home until about 10 last night but the roads were open. Usually there is a long line of long haul trucks climbing the pass which sometimes slows you up if one is trying to pass another but last night they were off the road (home with family I hope) so the roads were clear and the weather great. I found out my hubby's granddaughter has taught herself to knit and she is doing a beautiful job of it. She taught herself to crochet first and now the knitting. It's such a joy to see the younger ones take up this kind of thing. She's 20.

Merry Christmas to all and may peace be with you if you don't celebrate Christmas.

Glad to hear that you had a good time with your family. Nice to hear that your grand daughter taught herself to knit. I am *trying* to learn how to crochet (just got crochet hooks today). Wish me luck!
