Nikki, that is so awsome. I could never learn from my Mom (dau & Mom thing) but the neighbor put a hook in my hand and needles were not to far after. Not that I'm advanced but you would be so surprised who can teach you what.
My great uncle knit everyday. Why? Arthritis, keep those hands limber, and then you look back through history, men had to knit if they wanted warm feet! It was something I had never thought of until I visited the Shaker village, and everyone had to work for themselves and mend for each other!
Anyways, what I basically wanted to say was good for you Nikki.
Oh, and for future reference... 13YO isn't a age, it could be 13 stitches and a Yarn Over

- sorry couldn't resist. I am just joking of course!
Keep up the good work of teaching your new friend, it helps with learning, self esteem and the ability to occupy ones self in those teen age years, grounding of sorts!

LOL I was looking at a pattern after I wrote the post and started to laugh when I saw the YO used.

We had dinner with the neighbors tonight and Lindsey (the daughter) was saying that her friends were laughing at her when they saw her knitting and then came up later and asked if she could show them how to do it. LOL who knows it could be the next big thing with young teens. Thank you for your kind words and I am happy to be on this forum and see so many people going back to older practices and learning how to do things on their own.

Very Nice!

I wrote the pattern out so it made a lot more sense. Also put a pin on the stitch (the stitch right after the slipped stitch on the decreases & the stitch right between the M1 on the increases). Also put a pin on the even rows so I remember to knit across on that side.

Writing it out made it almost brainless. Just have to remember to count the stitches before the pin every few rows.

Here's a few projects I finished up right before Christmas. They're all knitted from yarn I spun myself

Couple calorimetry (still need buttons put on)

Ohhh the yarn you spun is just beautiful.

I didnt know what a calorimetry was so I had to look it up on Knitty. Those are really cool. I want to knit one for myself.

It knits up so easily! And you can wear it as shown on Knitty or button it under your chin or wear the large side on the back of your head with the buttons on top or as a collar.

I took up knitting 2 years ago so I'd have another place to use my hand spuh yarns. I've been crocheting for years, but mostly thread crochet and wanted to make knitted socks!

Thank you for your sweet compliments on my yarn.

Here's a few more I recently spun:

The hemp will be triple plyed and knitted into wash cloths

The burgandy/blue/green at the top is being knitted into an EZ BSJ. Don't know why, I don't have any little ones around here. Guess I just like seeing a mess of knitted cloth, making a couple folds and viola! a jacket!

I went to the doctor yesterday to see if the pain in my hands and elbows was arthritis. She told me it was OVERUSE and to STOP knitting so much! Have you ever heard such a thing? Think I'd rather blame it on having to type so much at work...

(Besides, I bet she's never been under the gun to finish a late christmas project before)
