Second person plural. It is just proper English.

When I had Latin in high school we had to conjugate verbs, The snobby girls would always snicker when I said 'you all'... run read speak or whatever.
It wasn't even a southern y'all.
Now, I use what I like. y'all.
 
I have lived in the south, for a very short time(did not like it), just prefer "y'all" as a gender neutral, all inclusive pronoun.

Didn't mean to ruffle feathers, just a yolk. So sorry your southern experience was not a good one, guess you didn't meet the right folks. Or as I do, stay away from them.

But, I did get a whole summer long ridicule for my "y'all" from people who said "youse guys". It amazed me even at 13 yo, that they didn't see the irony of their jokes.
