how cute! Sorry I can't help, I'm new here and I'm a duck person! Yes the storm was a dud, thankfully. My duckies are annoyed because I didn't let them out of their run yet. The duck inspector is supposed to visit today and I thought it would look stupid to have a run with nobody in it!

Welcome ! :frow

Make sure to make a Poop board under the roost with PDZ in it. life saver and easy poop scooping. The $1 store has kitty litter scoops for a Buck and a bunch of small buckets for things like.... putting the poop into, carry water or food out, carry treats out :)

Check out Craigs List of used stuff (not coops, they are usually the crappy ones). Even wood on there is worth it to get and reuse !

Wishing I was in N Central MA with some land... some day !
Thank you! I always carry PDZ for my horses stalls, so that works.
I was thinking of having an area for them to roam, fences in. Then, an opening in the barn for them to come in and roost. We have concrete floors, that I could throw some sand down on, too. Or, I don’t know if I should keep the area, like a stall I closed, an not cut out a rectangle and build off of it a roost area? Do they need sunlight to roost? Also, is it best to have them away from my house or closer to my house due to noise? I am a light sleeper. That question may seem insensitive, and I’m sorry.

That's not insensitive, it's a valid concern. I have an elderly dog that has been keeping me up every few hours and it is making me crazy! I was initially going to keep my ducks in my side yard further from my house. It's in the backyard much closer and I'm happy I can keep an eye on them. I think my drakes are quieter than chickens though.

I wouldn't do sand, it smells. I can't remember how many you are keeping but I would do shavings. A stall is a good choice, but you will have to cover the top or they will go roost where ever ;)
Natural light coming in will be fine.
Where is the barn now ? If you have horses in there now just put the hens in there too, why not, the more the merrier

Hi, I have two French Black Copper Marans cockerels from a recent hatch that are free to a good home. They are almost 8 weeks old. I also have a blue splash Ameraucana (12 weeks old) and I think he’s a cockerel. Not as certain on that one. I will need to find all these guys new homes because I can’t have roosters in Concord. I’m happy to provide free delivery also. Thanks!

The Ameraucana is a cockerel too.

I thought you could have roosters in Concord as long as you get a permit for them?

Ooh, I’m going to double check about the rooster rules here then. I would love to keep a rooster or three. I thought I specifically read something that said no with regard to that. Also, my neighbor three doors down is bummed about no roosters too. We are on the outside of town, not Concord Center. Will let you know! Thanks!
