BYC members in Massachusetts?

Anyone know any good poultry vets in western mass? I like my current non-specialist vet but was wondering if there are any with exceptional experience and knowledge of poultry nearby. Thanks

Is the sanctuary in MA? I'm not sure if I've called MA, I live in CT but I've called a few places with no luck! Im currently looking to rehome my 15 week old Easter egger cockerel due to city limits.
No, it's a sanctuary in NY. It's called Stonehouse Wood Sanctuary. You could try calling the owner, Kathleen Knight. I'm not sure if they have room for more roosters, but you could definitely try.

Thank you so much! It's so hard to rehome a rooster to a good home/place! I'm a first time chicken keeper and I'm finding the difficulty of surprise roosters to be overwhelming.

It really is hard. I called so many places when I was rehoming my boys, and it was really frustrating because I never seemed to get anywhere. There seems to be a lot of people trying to rehome roosters recently, so pretty much every sanctuary is full.

Hello!

I'm looking to possibly rehome up to 4 roosters, as I would like to make space. 2 are large fowl Cochins hatched 2/12/21, 1 is a large fowl cochin hatched 5/6/21, and the 3rd is a barnyard mix ( polish, easter eggar, cochin ) hatched 1/2/22 . It would be amazing to find them a home, as the Cochins especially are very sweet boys, however I am absolutely open to someone that would like to butcher them as it's unfortunately very difficult to find homes for them.

Whoops. It looks like there are two "Massachusetts" threads. I already posted this on the other, but here's a little about me:

I am north of Boston, in the Merrimack Valley. We got our two Crested Cream Legbar (eight-and ten-year-old) girls from Muddy Mutt Farms in Farmington, NH, and our two 14-week-old Salmon Faverolles girls from Littleman Poultry in Burrillville, RI. The latter two are still in quarantine (only because we got the CCLs first), but all four seem very healthy and acclimated. We've got a few more weeks before we can introduce them. I hope that it doesn't get super cold before then.

I see a lot of rooster rehoming going on here. We are not allowed to have them in our town, otherwise I'd love to help out. We are already in hot water as it is, with a quarantine crate in our garage. I do like many parts of living in Massachusetts, but some of our laws are so outdated and create massive hurdles for those without financial means. It's no wonder why so little housing has been built here in decades! End rant :)

I have just joined the forum and posted in the new member section. I'm in Mass between Boston and Worcester and I'm in the research phase of planning my first coop. Could I ask a couple of questions specific to the local area?

I keep seeing references like "join your local chicken keeping club". I don't find any when I search though (Google gives me plenty of recommendations for restaurants). Is there such a thing in this area or has the online forum, perhaps with the help of the pandemic, superseded any local in-person clubs?

I also wonder if there are any recommendations for vets in the general area outside of Boston and to the east of Worcester who take care of chickens. Everyone I know is equine-only! I suspect Tufts would have someone at least...but maybe others too?

Thank you in advance!
