BYC Public Relations PR Brainstorming - How to get the word out?

Hey BYC Members,

Help is on the way! CNN has been following me around for about two months now, and we have one last shoot tomorrow at a coop tour, and chicken class before the story is produced and aired worldwide! They have followed me to many chicken events including...

Court Case Involving Backyard Chickens
My National Radio Show about Backyard Chickens
Monthly Chicken Club Meetings
Largest Chick Give-A-Way Ever (600+ baby chicks)
Coop Tour
Backyard Chicken Classes
etc...etc...

It should be aired sometime in May worldwide. I will keep you posted. Also listen to Backyard Poultry with the Chicken Whisperer every Saturday at 9:00am EST or download the show to your mp3 player or iPod. We can also be found on iTunes! We have thousands of listeners each week!

Andy, make sure to get BYC (the largest and fastest growing chicken community in the world) mentioned during your shows and on CNN. If they leave out BYC they just aren't covering the story adequately.

You know it my friend! Hopefully they got me announcing BYC as a sponsor the day they were filming my radio show! I will personally call Tommy on Monday to put in a good word! I did mention BYC a couple of times during my interview with NPR last week. I will let you know when they plan to air that story as well. It's also in the works. They were at the house for three hours! Have a GREAT weekend!!!

P.S. I don't think a radio show has gone by that we did not air a BYC commercial!!! There GREAT! We really need some different ones! Especially from kids!

chicken ambassador!

So far it's my fault (at least partially) that two families have chickens.
And I've only had them since July!

I'm sure press releases have been mentioned. Accompany them with pictures of you with a fave chicken and make yourself and a chicken friend available for interviews.

You have the opportunity to become the "Good Housekeeping Seal" of the poultry community by approving the good and noting the not-so-good.

If BYC had a regional presence at poultry shows/fairs that would help reinforce BYC's position as a leader. Maybe vett knowledgeable members willing to serve as regional reps?

I'm very glad you brought that up! We often get emails from poultry show organizers that want BYC to have a presence. It sure would be great if we had a list of members all over the US that would be willing to man booths, answer questions, etc.

when I get back to school, during lunch of course, I can use the publishing software to create a draft of the thing I'm talking about. At home we have a Mac that's missing four keys, and an ancient HP that can't handle youtube.

We should have a BYC fundraiser, and the proceeds could be donated to the National FFA organization as a scholarship for a young FFA member. Perhaps a BYC change/coin/penny drive, where everyone can donate the remaning change on their paypal accounts or something... How many journalists would want to write about THAT?!?

I really think a press release that we, as a whole member group, help brainstorm ideas for is a great way to go. Not that it is the only way we should look at but, with a press release that Nifty has put his name to, we would have something to take to our local press (newspaper, radio, tv, whatever) to put out the story idea to them with the added bonus of having a statement from the owner/administrator of the site (probably would be a great bonus). Then we can say that we are willing to do an interview to help localize the story. Which would connect with the locals in your area.
