BYC Search Tools - Don't Be Afraid Of Them!

LOVE the search feature since it helps me learn and learn and learn!! I also has the added feature of keeping me a little more focused than just browsing the forum and getting distracted by soooo many neat topics

Ok, if I go to the BYC search, and enter (in quotes) something like "Powdered Eggs", is there a way I can get ~only~ posts with the two words next to each other. Rather than something like, "I powdered my hens with DE, and got more Eggs"?

Yup, just type it in quotes and it works fine. If you want to limit your search, change the setting: "Search in" to "Topic only"

Actually, I may be wrong. Quotes may only work with the Google search.

Hi Folks

Quite a number of times when I have tried to use the search function on this forum i was presented with an advanced search page which then would not work.

Tonight I really wanted to search "hybrid vigour", same thing, no workie.

Then I had a brainstorm uerekah event and fixed the problem all by my lonesome.

I turned the java scripting function ON in my browser (K-Meleon) I leave this off at all times for safety reasons.

I guess the idea popped into my head because gMail doesn't work in all of it's splendorous ways either if I have it shut off.


I don't know if many others have this problem using Search but maybe it would be usefull in th FAQ page?

Are you referring to the Google powered search (the search to the top right of each page) or to the built in forum search found here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/search.php
