BYC SEWING/QUILTING CLUB

DDIL came over last night and said she saw a flyer for a one day sale (Jult 30th) at Hankcock Fabrics for a Singer Heavy Duty Sew and Serge for $99. I've always wanted to try serging. Do you think it's a good deal? I called the store and asked if they had a model number, but they don't. I guess they aren't in stock yet. They have lay-a-way too. I might put one on lay-a-way and have DH give it to me for Christmas!

I would think that is a great deal for sure. I think I will check ours out also.

Could you actually wait till Christmas?

or.....I know you can use it and then wrap it back up as if you never touched it

well, if you do the latter.....make sure you clean it first

It sounds like a great deal to me. I have a serger machine and I

it.

Scrambled that is too funny, a friend of mine bought a camera and her hubby said she had to wait till Christmas to use it, so she took everything out and wrapped the box. She had been using it for months by the time Christmas came, LOL, he never knew the difference LOL.

I completed my first little quilting project a couple weeks ago. I wanted to make a sleeping pad for my doxie. Unfortunately he never uses it but I was proud of it even if it is a very minor project.

I walked into the room yesterday to see my doxie using the dog pad...

to pee on.

Maybe the cat will like it, after I wash it of course.

I have a Singer serger and it's works just fine. It was a "need it now" purchase a few years ago. My DD was working on a sewing project for 4H and we needed it quick. So, it was to the closest place - Walmart. The serger was not top of the line, but it sure has been a good purchase. I did have trouble threading it last Fall and our local sewing machine repair guy cleaned and threaded the serger for $5.00. I was pleased with the deal as I had agonized over threading it for a week.
This machine sounds like a real good deal.

Yes. Most sergers come with a nice booklet with pretty clear instructions with lots of pictures.
The hardest part for me was learning how to thread the four bobbins but once I got the hang of it...it is really cool.
I got my serger as a package deal when I bought my Bernina. If I bought the sewing cabinet, I got a free serger....whoo hooo. The table is an L shape with the sewing machine one one leg and the serger on the other. I use a swivel chair at the table and can swith back and forth ......soooooo cool.
Oh, and i bought this book on Amazon.com: Easy Singer Style: Quick and Easy Sewing with your Serger by Becky Hanson. It's a really good tutorial.

A friend of mine uses her serger to put together her blocks. I prefer the regular sewing machine because I think the serger adds too much thread on the seams for hand or machine quilting. IMHO

You were the one who kept saying you were going to steal my doxie. Remember? Bet you are thinking twice now.

So I could do this to bring to the neighbor...

I will add more eggs, I just wanted to give you the idea.

What do you all think? Perhaps I am being silly but I am almost afraid to give it away because they may not like it and I spent so much time but I made it to give away...

Oh and stop talking sergers! I have a very low threshold for temptation.
