oooooooooooo I like jelly rolls! Strips are my new things. I used to applique a whole lot but have been doing lots more strip quilting because it is sooooooooooooooo easy
I can't wait to get started, but I have to get other stuff done today around the house.
I'm a little scared to unroll the Jelly roll cause its so pretty!
I am going to start by hand sewing some very thin batting onto some plastic canvass, thats going to hold the sides of the bag firm. then I'll "cover" that with the strips of fabric sewn together and I'll have to dig for a fabric for the inside. I have lime green bias tape to use all around the edge, I won't be able to turn the bag inside out with the plastic canvass inside, so I'll close it all up with the green bias tape.
The guy across the street that lives with his mother hoards everything and won't work and won't let his mother do anything for fear he won't have her money when she dies, had a stroke yesterday and another one today. His sister and brother has been over there cleaning out the house and throwing stuff away and she brought me some quilt squares that her grandma had tied in bundles but they reeked of heavy cigarette smell. I don't know if I should throw the pieces in the washer scattered around or put them in a mesh bag or something and try too wash them or just what I need too do. I think the pieces are polyester but not sure as I don't know how too recogonize most fabric. Some I can but some fools me. Can I just throw all the squared in the washer and wash them and then get them out and press them. I know it will be time consuming too gather all of them up that way. And will the washing take the cigarette smell out of them? Love the jelly roll also.

Depends how ingrained that smell is, you might do well washing and hanging to dry in the sun, or leaving outside in the sun on a sheet on the ground or something if there are too many to hang each one.
The sun does wonders as does the fresh air.
Do they look like they'll fray on the edges easily? if so it might be a good idea to try a mesh bag so they don't get tossed around too much.
