BYC SEWING/QUILTING CLUB

Thank you!
I'll have to look up the name for you. It was in one of my 30's quilt books and it required a special ruler. But it turned out really pretty. Rosette winner at the fair!

Hmmm indeed it looks nice. I could do it paper pieced. It appears to have two blocks and a great secondary pattern. Congrats on winning! Well deserved.

When you asked the question I thought to myself I would do it w/ foundation piecing.

I so envy anyone with the patience to piece quilts as beautiful as these! And paper piecing is way out my league - not even Carol Doak could teach me! Once in a fit of determination I made myself try a technique that a friend of mine uses. Her quilts are beyond exquisite. "Hidden in Plain Sight" was my first and last attempt at that kind of piecing/appliqué combination and machine quilting. . I went back to hand work the second the last stitch was in!

That is awesome!!!!!

Thanks, but I have to tell you that I didn't enjoy one moment of the process - well, except for stitching the real pheasant tail feather on, that was kinda cool. And when you don't like what you're doing, you don't really like the end product that much either, at least I don't. I struggled with this thing and when I finally got it done all I felt was relief instead of pride. Oh, well, it's now in the hallway as a reminder that sometimes we have to try things out of our comfort zone. Who knows? I may have done it and loved it...

and then I'd have done more of them. Uh, not so much!

With this latest block swap, I tried applique for the first, last and only time. I felt very similar, hated every minute of it. So much so I only did 6 of the 12 in applique, then made up a pattern for paper piecing and did some in traditional piecing.
