BYC SEWING/QUILTING CLUB

I've been thinking about making a short video of me hand quilting, but my hands look like a farm gal's; don't know what one of them city-fied manicures is. Never had one of those and years ago, I gave up trying to keep my own nails nice and polished. No interest, no time. Got thangs to do, ya know. But, if I could do a short clip of a few quilting stitches, then you could see how I use a thimble. The thimble actually belonged to my son, who moved to Korea a few years ago, as did those Asian fabrics I am trying to sell. He was trying to make costumes for something. He even left a sewing machine here, though it's not as fancy as even my CS-6000i.

Personally, I just keep my nails short and never polished. Bet most of us are getting our mamma's sun spots as well..

Would love seeing the video.

But wonder, can you post a video directly to BYC?? And if so, how do y'all do that?

No, you can't. You must upload to either youtube or vimeo. It's not like it used to be. Or, you can upload to photobucket and just put the link, though that site is so super slow for people without fast internet. My DSL is only about 4-5 MBps

I don't have sun spots, my hands usually look fairly young for my age (when they aren't dried out), but my nails are rarely filed neatly, cuticles are not smooth, etc. I just don't spend any time doing that stuff, not unless something is snagging my crochet project. Quilting itself is very hard on the hands, sucks all the moisture out of them and gives you callouses on the fingertips, but you know about that, I'm sure.

most of the sunspot on my arms/hands were from spending too much time playing with my flock in their brooder under the heat lamps.

LOL, I've been outside more in the last 13 years than in my entire previous life so it's a wonder I don't have all sorts of sun damage, being as fair skinned as I am, but I religiously put on products with sunscreens and use those anti-wrinkle creams every night without fail. Have to fight nature somehow, eh? Still, I won't give up my outdoor enjoyment or my hobbies that decimate my poor hands. Got to live, right?

It's ironic- the sun and dirt and other elements don't hurt my hands, the lotions do! The only thing that moisturizes my hands is goat milk lotion, which doesn't have preservatives, so I'm thinking preservatives don't help my hands.

Probably all those chemicals in them. My business partner makes natural soaps that I use now, so moisturizing that I don't use body washes anymore. Since she makes them at home, they don't have all the commercial crap in them. And, being her business partner, I get to be a very lucky guinea pig. One of the easiest commercial moisturizers on my own skin is the tub of Equate brand skin cream (very thick, no fragrance or color) that Walmart sells. I've added baby oil gel to it to get it to spread, it's so thick. Doesn't seem to have anything in it to irritate. It's killer on rough feet after you exfoliate, slather it on and sleep with socks overnight.

I participated in a swap called a "boomerang" where each participant sends some of their fabric to each other participant and everyone makes blocks for the others in the group w/ their chosen fabric plus what you add to it and send it back. Anyway I have had an awesome time doing it stretching my designing muscles. Thought I'd share my completed blocks before I send them back. Some I made up, others imitated pictures I saw and a few I had written pattern instructions for. I tried curved piecing, pp, disappearing blocks, 3D, and a tiny bit a applique.
