BYC Spinning Fiber

I'm so happy to find spinners on BYC! I've been spinning for over 20 years. I've recently sold lots of fiber and still have a walk-in closet full. Not to mention tubs of handspun yarn from my Ashford Traveller & spindles, and knitted & woven shawls and such. I've spun at Renaissance fairs, taught summer craft camps where we did a sheep-to-shawl project, as well as demos at the Palm Beach County fair's annual llama show. After Hurricane Charley hit us in 2004 I became distracted with other things and haven't been as active with my wheel and loom. Maybe I can blow the dust off the wheel, chase the moths out of the closet and get going again!

hooray, more spinners!

I've been spinning for a few years now. I have an Ashford Kiwi and don't spend as much time with it as I'd like. my favorite fiber to spin is alpaca... so soft! right now I'm working on some beautiful rosy-brown alpaca fiber and adding little bits of bronze glitz to it. I am planning for it to be a 2-ply, somewhere between DK and worsted.

Neat-O! I love spinning alpaca too. Several years ago I bought the shearling fleece from a baby alpaca out in Oregon, then the following year that baby won Grand Champion at the Oregon Flock and Fiber Festival and I bought the Grand Champion fleece! It was neat to see how the fleece changed over just a year; more guard hair in the adult fleece. Still a pleasure to spin, and like a cloud! Post a picture of your glitzy yarn here when it's finished!

I need to do that too... It's been a lot of building coops, fixing up the house and everything else since we moved in to our house last November.
I can only think of a hand full of times I have spun since we moved in

I'm a spinner, as well. I love my little Kromski Prelude, but I dream of having a Majacraft Suzie Pro wheel someday! I card, dye, spin, knit, crochet, etc.

I am not a spinner but my mom is. She started long before I was born and thats part of the reason we got into Alpacas. So now with so many between the two of us she keeps busy!

I'm happy to find someone in Alaska to possibly order alpaca from:) From Nome, have an Ashford Scholar Mark II and hike to collect quiviut every Spring/summer.

I meant to get some Shetland or shetlandx lambs this year but am having trouble w/the money issue since we just returned from stateside for my second son's wedding and met my first grandbaby (g-son) from my eldest, first son. While gone, my son in law was collecting eggs and I forgot to warn him about broody hens, he gave some eggs away that contained chicks near to being hatched...

Got to also meet my banty Rhode Island Red trio I gave to my ex hubby and his second wife:) She calls the dogs and the roo comes running, too!

Actually, for these particular roving, I bought as undyed roving and used acid dyes.

To get them into long rovings from raw, I:

Pick
Scour
Pick
Drum Card (3-4 times)
Pull through diz into roving
