BYC Spinning Fiber

At first I forgot to do the drafting and so there are some really fat parts but then remembered so there is some that is OK then some that got too skinny. Just need to figure out how to get it even. Not even remotely frustrated yet....

I started spinning this summer with a drop spindle. I made a few and then ordered one from Etsy. The homemade ones were OKAY, and the one I ordered from Etsy broke both times I tried to use it. I got a Louet drop spindle yesterday and it worked GREAT! I spun a whole ball of roving into yarn in about 30 minutes!
I am hooked now. I am getting an English Angora rabbit this week, so my spinning adventure is only getting more exciting by the minute.

Glad you're enjoying it, Buff!!!!

KitchenGirl...you should post some pics!

I taught my bf how to spin and he's plying his first yarn. He's a natural!! You should see him gloating about how it looks like he's been doing it for years.

WOOOW, it all sounds soo . .. . poetic. I thought I wanted a wheel before, but nowww! Geesh, I'll be glad when I a) learn to spin; and 2) get a wheel.

Thanks, Itsy!

Thank you! And.... you should get a wheel! ::enable enable enable:: lol

Yay Buff! You may think your first yarns are ugly, but I love new spinner's yarns! They knit, crochet & weave up so pretty!

Jenlyn, WoodlynWoman is correct. It takes 4 oz.

Lyric, wheels are great if you have a lot of time to sit and spin. Spindles are wonderful if you're on the go a lot. Spindles are easily portable and any time you have to wait in line or are watching a child's sports game or at a long stop light, you can pull it out and get some spinning in.

I went to the last Fiber Festival of the season in my area on Saturday. Great time! Saw a lot of friends I only see at the festivals. They have a Viewer's Choice for items. Receiving ribbons in this show means so much (to me at least) since it is judged by peers.

3rd place for single ply yarn:

2nd place for drop stitch sampler shawl:

And the one I'm most proud of is a 2nd place for a pair of socks I'm knitting for a friend on another forum in a KAL & exchange.

Thank you! I was really surprised with the 2nd on the drop stitch shawl. I mean look at the color work of the objects in the lower right & upper left corners.

The shawl was made of my leftover hand spun yarns

Well Cyndy, you just go ahead girl!!!!!!!!!!!

The couple of times I picked up my drop spindle, the "work" looks like feces. Umm, practice makes perfect though, right? And, if I can drop spin I'll be a better wheel spinner, right yaw'll????
