BYC Spinning Fiber

I was looking at wheels, but I really love how I can bring my spindle anywhere. At first I was hung up on the pretty ones too, but they were uber expensive.
There is supposed to even be an aromatherapy one! I want that....

I haven't tried my bottom whorl spindle yet, only the top so far and I like it.

There are a few ways to pre draft. You can split the roving length wise until it is the diameter you want to spin with, or draft the fiber to the diameter you want before you spin. or a combination of both

I have to take my car in then hopfully i get to meet you. It keeps braking down on me:(

I stopped in to the fiber event at Greencastle yesterday. I don't spin. I don't even knit. But I wanted to check it out because we want to get started raising a few sheep. My plan was to have the wool processed into batting for my quilts. Well, I left there yesterday with a book, a drop spindle and a large ball of roving. lol I need another hobby like I need a hole in my head, but after seeing all that gorgeous fiber I just had to.

After doing the research we've decided on raising Shetlands. I think they're cute, they're fairly easy to raise and a really good breeder lives close to me who has promised to teach me to spin if I fail to get the hang of it myself. But most importantly, the variety of natural colors. They're gorgeous!

I know what you mean. I went too. I have too many hobbies. First, I have my animals. I love making soap, knitting, spinning, and crocheting. I saw kits for needle felting. I just had to get one. Just one more hobby I need to find time for. It was hard to not bring home more roving and other items.

What does Shetland feel like? Is it soft or coarse? Short stable or long? Any crimp? I'm not familiar with too many breeds. I've used Jacob, Romney, Merino, and Alpaca. I also have Churro but haven't used it yet.
