BYC Valentine's Day Hatch-a-Long

For anyone with chicken eggs or any eggs that take 21 days to hatch by Valentine's Day, tomorrow is the day!

I just got my brooder in the mail yesterday. I plan to set the eggs tomorrow (Friday) or the next day (Saturday).

I'm testing out the temp and humidity today.

I'll be using our own eggs. First time ever hatching eggs.

I hope your eggs are still plugging along, Kathy! We've got just a few folks raring to have chicks and ducks for Valentine's Day! Hopefully, we'll be able to see some cute ducklings!

Mia decided to join you guys and sit on some eggs for Valentines Day!

Here, the Kitty servant was working on marking up the eggs.
Method: Stuff the 'bator and add the turner after candling has reduced the batch.

Set: in the Evening of the 23rd (ours tend to start hatching early and spread out, probably due to rolling eggs).
Number: 27 (the morning may see a few more added if hens cooperate with donations).

I cracked up laughing! Mia is so protective!


I didn't get a picture but when I set everything up and took the thermometers out last night to put the last rack in, Stella, one of ours, made a leap and landed right on top of them all. Of course the racks turned and scared her good! I had to resanitize the entire incubator.

Yes it is. I love it. This makes my 3rd or 4th hatch in it. The first hatch I was in a different state fishing and in the boat checking on the incubator. Pretty cool!

Should I initially get the humidity at 40% to start? I plan to weigh the eggs to check for weight loss per the incubating thread. Then I can adjust from there based on weight loss. Just wondering if 40% is a good place to start.
