If I lived close to you, I surely would take it off of your hands. I have a great idea in mind to use for my chickens.

My husband's a musician and two weeks ago I found him a 1970 Ampeg AC12 Accordion Amp at re-use zone at the dump, and it works! He'll never argue with me again if I want to look at free stuff. Plus the thrill of the hunt is part of it, I love scrounging or spotting good finds on the side of the road or at a garage sale.

I went to Lowes last night looking for wood to make my nest boxes out of.I was going to get the BIGG piece of wood, but i started talking to the worker and he said he had the length i needed outside. He went and got it. it was exactly what i was looking for, he cut it so i could make the boxes. he then told me it was free beccause it had gotten rained on. Lowes and the feed store has become my second home.

I agree with a lot of this. I became addicted to freecycle.org this year. I have gotten rid of some stuff I didn't need and picked up canning jars, a beat up old wagon that I turned into a planter, and enough plants and trees that if I purchased them at the nurseries I would have spent at least 500 bucks on just plants. I didn't have much luck with things for my coop, there are just too many people on freecycle that were looking for the exact same thing. It has become one of my favorite new hobbies along with raising chickens.

Heeeeeyyyy Dana!! (Baymule)!!!!!! The load of lumber looks so awesome sitting there next to the future site of my breeder pens. It's just too bad that I think I'm gonna have to cull my Maran roosters (they're coloring doesn't look right, but I will get a second opinion before culling). But this way I'll have plenty of time to work on the breeder pens, since it looks like I'll be beginning from scratch with my Marans this fall. PLEEEEAAASE let me know if you get ahold of anything else. I frequently check out the polk county free recycle site also!! WOOOOHOOOO!!!! It's a true saying - one man's trash is another man's treasure.

I won't tell ya'll about the times when I was little that we used to go to the dump and scrounge - 'course that was YEARS ago when you used to be able to do that. We found so much awesome stuff!!!

Some people make a decent living off selling scrap metal. In my neck of the woods there is always someone looking for something to haul away.

Mississippifarmboy-just dial 1-800-call-crackheads and they will come strip off all the aluminum siding, all the wiring and leave all the 2x4's exposed so you can build another chicken coop out of them.

Ya'll just don't know how addicted I am.........some years ago, the city was tearing down their old warehouse downton. I asked my DH to get the bricks for me. "Why???" "Because I want to use them for building patios and other stuff when we build our house on our land." It was nine 20-yard dumploads of red bricks. DH paid $40 per truckload so I could have used bricks still chunked up with mortar. I have cleaned thousands and have used some making our garden beds at our house here in town. We have enough red bricks to someday lay our entire long driveway...........patios in the back yard.......bar-b-que pit........fire ring for hanging out on winter nights......CHICKENS!!!!! (thumps head with palm) WOW!!! I can build a BRICK CHICKEN HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!

I wanted to do that exact thing when they tore down two old schools in the area but DH wouldn't try to find out how to get them for me, I told him we could use the pieces for the base for the new drive way and I would have plenty for patios and parking area. He just gave me the your crazy look and refused to talk about it.
