Well my lavender chick is dying so gonna be culling the other three and the parents been trying 4 years to get a lavender chick and now its all a waste of time so done with it just gonna stick to my mottles.

Sorry about your little one. Lavender and self blue chicks seem a lot more fragile than others... I wonder why

I should of figured as three of the four needed help. Wont be doing that again if it cant hatch it can die in the shell helping never ends well they always end up dying anyways.

Here is a sample of my October hatch, with the RIR chicks and Welsh Harlequin duckling hatched on the same day, two weeks ago. The size difference is amazing to me. I have 21 ducklings and 6 chicks from this hatch, all looking good to me so far. I intend to keep all the RIR hens and the best roo as a backup to Mephistopheles, and probably a similar approach with the ducklings. Trying to free up space in Freezer Camp for the extra boys.

This was surprising to me also. I think it's also the RIRs growing somewhat slowly, because I raised CornishX with ducklings and the growth difference wasn't as obvious.

Just for giggles I weighed them today, 4.25 oz for a random chick, and 10.55 oz for a duckling, so roughly 2.5 times the size.

Partly my fault. The egg shouldn’t have been incubated. Yolk wasn’t at all ready for him to have pipped. Veins everywhere. Lucky he didn’t pop one when he internally pipped.

But we don't know exactly how an embryo will perform. Each egg comes with its own circumstances and individual genetic setup. It's such a miracle.
