BYC's 2025 Spooktacular Halloween Hatch-Along

Sadly, there were no survivors. I still have my one egg I set for the Halloween hatch, though.

One Egg Is Better Than Zero Eggs! Grow Little Chickie Baby ❣️

@NestingMillenial I'm not sure why you would think this is funny:mad:
I mean, I wasn't laughing at Lady Lisa's eggs not making it, but the "solo chick hatch" is a bit of a funny thing - I'm rooting for this underdog for sure!! Didn't start with the best conditions but making it through! 💪

I too am rooting for the singular baby but worry about it being a singular baby. Chickens are such social animals I worry that it will be lonely. I also worry about it integrating into the flock when it's old enough. I fear the orphan will have a hard life for a while.

Thanks for explaining, I've had some bad hatches myself, so I know how tough it is when things don't go well.

I also didn't factor in what jxp was saying about integration :/

In any case, I have no egg to hatch but I am following along all your efforts and feeling invested - here is to hope it all goes well with the eggs that made it so far! <3

Nevermind..I found a solution to the candling!
I used this phone looking flashlight that I dug out of my cabinet.
Of course I'm candling all blue eggs.
9 is looking really suspicious but I'll leave it and see later. It looks like I'm seeing development in all others. In order is 13,10, 11, 12, 9, 8, 14. 8 was like a solid rock.it took me 2 minutes of constant repositioning to see any little sliver of the air cell. But I think it's doing fine. 12 is also one of those opaque eggs and it was also more or less candleable.

If you're wondering why I'm candling so much, my little bowl in the incubator gives it the perfect humidity, but it is quite shallow and has to be refilled every single day. So I'm candling just while I'm at it.

The orpungton eggs are looking questionable. Both have air cells but I can't see much vein development or dark blobs..I'll wait and see. Maybe they're not fertile.
