Day... where are we now... 8/9 for the 6 eggs that are Shelf 2. (Well, that was confusing).

Anyway, 5 out of 6 are alive and well! Egg 5 obviously didn't develop.

Shelf 1 is doing great too. They're now 8, as I threw out the empty one.

Just got a text from our power supplier that they're gonna shut off the power for maintenance on Thursday, from 9AM to 2PM. That's half the day! We have a generator, but we can't run delicate electric appliances on it. I dunno, gotta put'em next to the wood stove or something.

What about you guys, do you have emergency plans in case of power outages?

I have one large bin incubator that accepts a 12V battery and the battery on standby. I've had trouble with eggs bunching up on the turners, but in a pinch it'll work. https://a.co/d/5hQXInJ

I am hoping to have a doz chicks for Valentines hatch. I will be setting more eggs with the hope of fertility this time. I may set early, incase I need to grab eggs from else where if my hen's eggs are not fertile. Yes I can bust them open, but these egg are giving me mixed messages.

I only have one he was born on the 4th of July. I did find one egg fertile...

after opening 6. Bu at least I know which hen, and it is a LO.

I set eggs today. I suspect that the majority will be unfertilized. During the week I will discard clears and set some in their place.
