Oh yeah. I actually remember doing that. I’m an Army brat and we actually ate out of our car traveling across the US. Do you remember the roadside picnic tables that were everywhere, just alongside the road?

Almost could have been my family in that pic. 62 Ford like this one except ours wasn't a station wagon. Was the mid 60's going across country. Got my introduction to Spam. Every meal we'd pull over to the side of the road and have a Spam sandwich. Guess it was safer than trying to carry bologna in the middle of summer.
