I know Mardi Gras seems like a foreign concept to a lot of people. That's because, well, it is.
New Orleans has been through a lot in the last 300 years. War, plagues, storms, fires& floods.
In 1857, 11,000 people died from Yellow Fever in one summer.
So part of it is a way to lighten up and not take things too seriously.

One theme you may find interesting is the way we treat royalty, as it should be, with total scorn.
Our 'King' of Mardi Gras' title is 'Lord of Misrule'. Another theme is the ridicule of politicians.

Yep! We survived! And now look today. No Baby Jesus hidden in the king cake at work since it’s a choking hazard . Baby and beads were in a sealed baggie next to the cake in the box.
