I have unchecked the 'show online status' boxes in Privacy and in Settings. Have saved changes. Still I sense I'm being watched LOL the online status continues to appear on my profile page. I'm just trying to figure out how it works.
Can someone tell me if you see the little green triangle on my Avatar right now??
And also if biophiliac appears in the list of members online?

See above ... and THANKS!I see the green box.....
Depends on the thread. If it's a subject I'm really interested in, and it's not cluttered up with a ton of jabber, then I like to see what I can learn there. For instance, I have started breeding Langshans, so I am subscribed to that thread. But I also went back to the beginning to catch up on any bits of wisdom that may be scattered throughout. I am on page 700 of about 1100 now.
But the feature was great for new short threads too:
Exactly! With my slow internet, sometimes each click to a new page has to be decided whether it's worth clicking or not.
You know what else I miss? (Also minor.) When you were on the "view subscriptions" page before, it had a little number for how many new posts had been added to each thread. So if Internet was slow, I could just wait for a higher number of new posts, instead of loading the page just to find out that someone had only said "nice photo", or "thanks". Or, if it said there were 50 new posts, and I knew I didn't have time to read that many, I could avoid that one until I did have time. Cuz clicking on it and only reading 10 posts meant that next time it would skip those other 40 and go right to posts 50 and up.
Just little things that I used to appreciate. No big deal. Eventually I will be used to new habits and not even give the old ways a thought any more.
I actually really miss this as well. I am an active participant in some really busy threads, and some other "home" threads of mine can go a while with nothing (as folks get busy with stuff), and then have a flurry of activity if a new topic or issue is discussed. Also, I get busy myself, and sometimes am away for a little bit, and the number of posts in my watched threads used to help me prioritize what I wanted to catch up on first.
I also found myself desperately wishing of the gallery of photos for a given thread yesterday when I was looking for something.
I also agree with Ralphie that it would be nice to see all watched threads (read or unread) without having to click the little link at the bottom - but that's more minor compared to the above.
There are a lot of improvements to the new platform (and it's not like we had a choice, because of the change in the old software availability), and I am SUPER appreciative of all the work that's gone into it. Just sharing some things I miss.
