BYC's Software Conversion - Discussion & Information

Ya skipped human biology classes? :p

:plbb

I'm not sure if this is where I should ask this question, but then this is part of my problem anyways, lol.
What does "go to first unread mean?" Whenever I open a thread, it puts me in the middle of the pages. Ex page 137 of 143. When scrolling through the threads this reply box is at the bottom of every page making me think I am on the last page. This is so confusing. Does anyone else have this problem? My apologies if it has been mentioned already. Does 'go to first unread' take me to the page where I was the last time? Why are threads opening in the middle and not on the first or last page?
Thank you.

"Go to first unread" takes you to the place you were when on the thread last... except any threads you haven't read since before the conversion, for some reason it backed them up quite a bit... and yes, the reply box is always at the bottom of each page, but any reply posted automatically posts at the end of the thread... for people who need to say something before they finish reading, lol... ;)

Very strange. And you only have one like that? I think I have 75 or more.

I have a couple, but that was the very last one, lol...

Also keep in mind, it will take you to the first new post since the last time you opened the thread. If you didn't read all the new posts the last time, it won't know that. It will basically assume that if you opened the thread, you read everything. So if there are 10 pages of new posts and you only read 4 of them, the next time you come back, it will skip those other 6 and take you to what's new after that.

For some reason, when they made the transfer to the new site, everyone has now "read" every thread up to sometime in April 2017 even if you have never opened the thread before. On threads that you have read all the way though (since the transfer) it will show you the first thing you haven't seen yet. I think what is confusing you, and making me pull my hair out, is the thing where it assumes everyone was caught up on every thread up to April when they transferred... Even ones I was caught up on, it set me back to April and the ones I hadn't gotten that far, it thinks I read up to April... so I kind of have to guess....

Actually, it will take you to the next new page, if you didn't finish reading all the posts... if you stopped reading posts on page 10, for example, it will open on page 11, no matter how many new pages of posts there are since last visit...

@Nifty-Chicken is there any way to disable the old app? Would @Toddrick need to do it? New members are downloading it and to use, and it's kinda working, but is causing many issues... might be causing more discouragement on using the new site...

Or maybe a redirect to the new app or site?

I have no idea, My idea of high tech is a sharpie..

Wonder where @Nifty-Chicken is?
Doesn't look like he's posted in almost a week.
Hope he's just taking a well deserved rest and nothing untoward has occurred.

Are we kind of saying the same thing? Using my example of 10 pages that were new the first time you open it, then the next time you open it, it goes to the 11th page, regardless of whether you read all 10 pages or not the first time? Well, unless the next post is still on the 10th page, in which case it will open the 10th page again. So if you open it, and then don't actually read it, next time it's still going to go straight to the "11th" page, right?
