On April 19th, 2013, Gold, the best layer., was caught by an eagle. We knew it was an eagle because the corpse was found way way WAY far into a forest-like area behind out property... And more evidence was that the next day there was a eagle in the trees. I miss you gold... I cry when I see pictures of her. (I am tender-hearted.)

So sorry to hear about Gold! It's always tough when you lose a friend.

I've had to chase eagles out of my yard a couple of times. Both times, the crows made me aware of the eagle's presence. I don't do anything to discourage crows.

I find eagles a lot less thrilling since I found one with my favorite hen in it's claws.

Thanks, it's still sad though. We buy pairs of chickens, we have bought 4 pairs now, which makes 8 chickens. In one of the pair, one chicken, (Gold) was taken by GOLDen Eagle, and Shadow, the other part of the pair, is infected with Marek's disease. It is very sad... [IMG]
