Hi Lark, Enjoyed meeting youall at the meeting. I had a great time. I always enjoy meeting new people. Learned a lot. Got my Biddies settled in. Boy are they eating machines. Was a little concerned they weren't drinking, but they finally started drinking. using a 25 watt light over the cage. Seems to be enough.
TTUL,
Bill

Bill, I would use at least a 40 W. For them to grow well and develop at a proper rate they need an environment of around 95 degrees for the first week, then you can reduce the temperature by 5 degrees each week after that. It was great meeting you, too!

Just wanted to pop in and say hi from Martinez :) Still in the planning stages for my coop and flock. So far I have a decent size dog pen I'll be using for the yard. Scrapping up materials for the chicken house and doing research, research, research. Can't wait!

Hi Dena! Welcome from just across the river!
There is that FB group as well as chicken swap of GA.
What breeds are you thinking of? You can find just about anything you are looking for right around here (CSRA area).

I'm on Hobby Farmers of the CSRA too :) I have no idea what breeds, I looked up info on the chicken breeds on this board and came up with the Minorca, is that a popular breed around here?

Well my opinion is no. I had a Minorca rooster for sale and noone was interested. He is sitting in a cage where we buy feed. Noone has bought him yet. He is gorgeous. I love him but him and my hubby did not like each other.

So sadly he had to go. I hope you have good luck
