That's so strange.....our water heater was being bad yesterday. Jon reset it, but it keeps getting really hot, shuts off, then gets cold. We need to go to Fox Appliance (good friends of ours) to get parts. Hope we can fix it ourselves to save some $$$$.
Try cleaning the bottom of the unit. Airflow problems can cause problems. Take a shopvac to the very bottom. Remove the filter and clean it. I would do that first.

By shutting off, I'm going to assume you have an electric hot water heater, correct?
Easiest solution would be to replace the thermostat(s). Most hot water heaters have an upper and lower thermostat.
I have five Barred rock hens and Roo, five RIRs hens and Roo, and three Red stars. I did have five but about 3 weeks ago they decided they did not want to go back in the coop so they roosted outside the next morning I found feathers all up and down my drive, I have a long drive I have no idea what got them. then the next week I lost a Barred rock Roo. BTW I also have one Lazy Bassett Hound LoL
Just today found out about an APA show in Barnwell, SC on 12/3 --- Sandlapper Poultry Show!
I don't have the physical address, but it is at the intersection of Hwy 37 and Hwy 278, Barnwell. edited: Double L Show Barn, Barnwell SC 29812. The date is December 3 and it is a double show, in other words there will be 4 liscenced APA Judges. Two will judge the birds and make their placements and then the other two will do the same. That way exhibitors can get points towards Master Exhibitor of their breeds from both shows on the same day. Give Mark Beasley a call if you want more info. He's our APA District Director as well as the show Secretary. His phone number is 803-259-3752.
Welcome! I'm a great fan of Barred Rocks, they are my first and favorite breed! Sorry about your Stars, sometimes chickens can seem 'dense'. Maybe there was something in the coop that made them hesitant to go inside?

Oh, that's sad. I checked Hubs on-call sheet and he is on call that weekend. If he gets an emergency call, we might have to leave early. I'll anticiapte that, but hope for an uneventful day!
