Will you be selling teenage or adult rabbits next year(or sooner) as breeders? I know a very nice man who wants to start raising meat rabbits for their poo, willingness to eat excess veggies, and of course the meat. He's an organic farmer and he and his wife both love critters, the bunnies would be taken care of very well. I'm not sure how many he'd want to start with..Probably just one buck and two or three does, and he wouldn't need them pedigreed.

I'll see how it goes. If I get some extra acceptable breeders, I will probably sell them.

Okay

Sounds like a plan!! That's what I'll be doing...well that and running around town to visit all the family. Next year when the baby's here, I'm hoping everyone will be coming to us!!

Just wanted to share some info on feeding during winter months. As most of you know, if not all, chickens, especially hens, go through a molt this time of year. And the shorter days make us really take a hit when it comes to egg production. Therefore, it is a great idea to provide them with increased amounts of protein for feather & egg production. Now, keep in mind that a natural break in egg production is actually good for the hens' internal systems. Unless you have sexlinks or any other hybrids who sole purpose is for egg production I find it a good practice to actually give them a good 2 weeks of "rest."

During the winter months approximately mid-November to mid-late February I put all my birds on Rock-N-Rooster (growth booster), a Southern States Co-op produced feed. It has 20% protein compared to the usual 16% of layer feed. The only "fault" I find is the decreased calcium, but you can choose to supplement with oyster shell. Me personally, I don't supplement with oyster shell unless I get broken egg after broken egg, which doesn't happen often here. However, there is a catch with the rooster booster...it shouldn't be fed as the sole ration in order to maintain a "healthy" body weigh and muscle condition; therefore, I alternate bags of feed between the booster and layer pellets.

Okay, I'm off my soap box now.

I just wanted to put my 2 cents in on the subject and hope for more opinions to spur some good convo on our thread!

Since this is my first Winter with chickens, I don't have an opinion on it. Thanks for the info. I have heard similar info though.
