Where in Hephzibah are they? Do you remember what a 50# bag cost? Right now I'm paying about $14.50 for a 50# bag of Dumor pellets from TSC. It used to be $12 a year ago.
David, the feed that we had delivered was $17 for 100#, but the hens started to get real lean and their combs went from red to pale pink.
I also didn't like how the feed was so powdery. We ended up using it as scratch. Let me know how yours works out. Still no baby bunnies.....so disappointing! Doe #2 also failed to breed. ARGH! How hard can this be?!
I have been using Flint River Mills (FRM). I get a 50# bag at the Grovetown Farm and Garden for $11.55. I don't have a bag currently to tell you exact numbers but I know it has 15% protein. FRM is a southeastern Company based out of Bainbridge.
Also, for those of you who don't know... This Saturday is small business Saturday. Most of the feed stores we shop at accept American Express cards. If you have a card, type "small business Saturday" into facebook and register your card. By spending $25 on your American express at one of their small business partner's stores/restaurants, AmEx will give you a $25 credit!
I know the Barnhart feed store fairly well. Been there for as long as I can remember. My gma buys her layer pellets and chick starter from them, the Purina bag like Terri was talking about. You can also buy that Purina at tsc. I buy mine from Country Boy feed and seed just off exit 5 in north Augusta. 50# bag of layer pellets is $11.25 the booster i was talking about earlier is $14 for 50#.
The layer pellets we feed have a min of 16% protein, min 2% fat, max 6% fiber. Doesn't say anything about calcium on the front of the bag..have to check into that tomorrow, too tired to do it tonight lol. But we get them from a feed store in Thomson called McDuffie Feed & Seed. "Wormy" as the owner/manager goes by is a great guy, so are the other employees. We've been buying from them for probably 3-4 years, maybe more, we used to buy from Southern States but I think we started getting bugs in the feed..or maybe they were getting too expensive, I don't remember. Our birds are healthy and maintain a good weight. I think the price is up to $11-12.99 for a 50# bag of layer feed, it's gone up a lot in the past 2 years. Wormy's also great about getting us incubators & stuff for cheaper prices..I got our incubator for about $89 when it would have been $92 at least from anywhere else.
We get our chick feed from a local business called Burdettes Feed & Seed, we buy Purina but not the medicated stuff- we only use Gamebird starter since we have guineas and they need more protein. It's either 26%, 28%, or 30%. We feed it to all the chicks and they all do great on it, however it's gone way up in price. It's like $17.99 for 50# bag now. Used to be only about $15 last year I think.
Not hard at all. Just a basic cheesecake recipe and graham cracker crust w/ a hint of ground ginger added to both. The topping is sour cream with candied ginger.
I'll post the recipe when I dig it out.
