**** C S R A Group ****

Sounds like you've got a lot of interest in forming this group/project. Was wondering where we would meet. I think the consensus on FB is every other month.

"What all do you have there?"

Various bantams. The rooster is my Mille Fleur cochin bantam. The eggs could be from various hens including 1. Black cochin, 2. Self blue OEG bantam, 3. BB Red OEG bantam and/or 4. Spangled OEG bantam.

Curious as to how they will color out.

Gail

We trained our chickens to a bell too as chicks but rarely use it now. We mostly do the scratch-in-container method like Lark Rise. I leave it outside of the coop on a table we have out there and shake it if birds are unaccounted for. I also call them of course, lol, but the guineas come when called better than the chickens

I would love to attend a Chicken Swap this spring, preferably Augusta, Thomson, or somewhere near there would work best for me. Is anyone going to the All Breed Bantam show in Hartwell, GA on December 10th? I'm hoping to go, I need to email the guy and find out more details though..we'll see

Well, the date for our group is Thursday, January 19, 6:30-8:30. Location TBA. The purpose of this group is to bring families that want self sustainability together. It is for having fun, swapping stories, helping each other, and educating the public. ( Kind of like a stamp club of the farming community. ) Anyone with an interest in hobby farming is welcome. Tell your friends. I created a Facebook Group for it: Hobby Farmers of the CSRA.

Anyone here use food grade DE? We've been buying our from Broome's Feed and Seed on Hwy 56 for $36 for 50#.

I do not but it is great to know where to find some in town. Do you find that it cuts down on flies?

I've never really thought about it. I actually haven't seen flies around the coops, but then I haven't been paying much attention. I'll have to ask DH. I know they kill the fire ants! I think DH puts some DE on the hills ...... I'm not sure of the exact process, but I know it takes care of the problem.
