My friend came over today and we worked on my pen. He did most of the work as I'm not very handy. Bought materials from Lowes. My pen is a ten x six foot chain link dog pen. Bought 3 sheets of tin roofing 8 foot x 2 foot and chicken wire 3 ft x 150 feet. Wire over top and on the ground up the sides. Would be very tough for a preditor to get in. Half covered with tin and half only covered with chicken wire. I had had an idea about the type nesting boxes I wanted. My friend made a suggestion I liked better. always good to have more than one brain working on a project.
Now I've got to start working on a brooder. I'm thinking about getting a large cardboard box from a furniture store. One about the size of a coffee table. Once I get it set up I will be ready to order my biddies.
Here is a picture of my pen.

That looks like it will be predator-proof to me. A large cardboard box makes a great brooder. Just have a back-up brooder box when that one gets grungy.

HI Bill,
This thread is quiet nowadays. I hope you can make it tomorrow. You may even find your chicks there. :) Many folks bringing chicks. Your pen looks safe. An inexpensive brooder is a large plastic tote box that you might already have in your house. You can get them from Wal-Mart/Dollar Store quite cheaply. They are easy to clean, too, and reuseable.

Ok we are planning a Chicken Swap in Hephzibah at Barnharts. We have 2 days available. April 7th and the 14th. Who wants what day? The people that own the place are really excited about this. I should say though that their will be birds, and goats for sale. Input is greatly appreciated

April 14 is my vote. April 7 is part of Masters week and also the day before Easter.
Terri, there were so many people there today I didn't see you or Lisa.

Hi, I vote for April 14th. Be sure to post this on Hobby Farms Facebook page.
