And that is the way it SHOULD be

When they are necessary, they are a true lifesaver. However, far too many are NOT necessary.

I'm going to say something and I hope I don't get jumped by 10 people that go on to explain to me that their children didn't have that experience.....but opposite. Well its like this. I have heard it said that there is something about the birthing process that prepares a child for life and that being cheated out of it and born in an unnatural way contributes to a nervous child. Then I had one of my own and I remembered what I had been told. I can tell you that my 4th child......my c-section child is a nervous child. She is nervous about things she has no right being worried about. It is embarrassing sometimes. I drive up to a store and she gets this terrified look on her face and ask me if I'm going to leave her in the Surburban. When did she ever get left anywhere? She needs a lot of reasurance. I'm glad I had the c-section and that we are both alive, but I wouldn't encourage anyone to have one, unless they really needed it.
Is childbirth painful? Certainly, but its over and you can put it behind you. Besides you can cheat that too and just have the pain blocked.

OK here the jumps come...LOL just jokin... but this is not the first time I have heard this

Me, too, and both my births were c-sections. Neither is or has ever been "nervous." They are both quite self-confident young men, and were self-confident babies, toddlers and children.

I would imagine that birth is traumatic for the baby no matter whether it's a section or not.
I mean, even with a normal birth, the only world they've ever known goes to chaos, their nice liquid environment goes away suddenly and they've got this huge squeeze going on...then they're suddenly forced out into a completely different environment where there are these big things (people) prodding at them and touching them....

so either way it'd be a bit scary for them!

I'm very small (5'1'' and 100-120 lbs not pregnant) and delivered Nathan at 8 lbs 1oz ... but there was significant damage to me.

I will not get pregnant again, the "doctor" (Maya D.) nearly killed me... I was in the hospital with Nathan at home for a month, DH had to do everything- thank God for FMLA.

Our new OB here is famous for scheduling C-sections. He has been here for about 6 years now and will schedule one for just about any reason.

My first pregnancy was natural. No pain meds or anything. 18 hours of pure hard labor without anything. Ouch. Next pregnancy was natural except I did use the pain meds this go round!!

My last one was a C-section because of pregnancy complications. That was horrible! A vaginal birth is farrrrr more easier than a c-section one, IMO. It was for me at least. If I had to do it again and choose, it would be vaginal for sure.

Good luck with your birthing!!

I have a friend who was induced at 38 weeks because her doctor was going on Christmas vacation. So her body was not even ready for labor, so it didn't take to the petocin. She ended up having a c-section. I don't know why this doctor would take on a patient who may have a baby over her vacation time. My friend had a very healthy pregnancy. It's not like she was high risk or the baby was in distress. Doesn't make sense to me. Sometimes you do truly need a c-section and sometimes you just need time.
