Cabbage treat!

Funny how they all have difference preferences....I have one that I bought from a large flock that would rather have her meals on the floor...she's reluctant to eat from a bowl or pan...my 2 little ones will clean their bowl, but the big ducks will eat around certain things then Buddy gets an attitude when I reach in to get the bowl and tries to stop me! Strange duck...won't eat whats in there but does'nt want me to take it either.

Yesterday they both got bored and flew out of the pen...by climbing up on their hammock (designed as shade and a cover to sit under, they found another use, to sleep ON like a hammock) and using that as a lauching ramp to get over the fence...I come home to a patio with all kinds of stuff pulled out, duck poo everywhere and 2 big ducks acting like I'm the bad guy for busting up the party...Usually bad behavior does not get rewarded...but this time I gave them treats just to get them settled again so they'd stay in the pen. I keep several fresh cucumbers on hand to use as bribes in these situations...works everytime.

I tried cantaloupe in the summer...processed into small pieces, they wouldn't touch it.

We have apples from our trees that are less than optimal - won't touch those either.

I reserve the right not to share watermelon, but then I love it so much I can almost eat a whole one by myself on the rare occasional that I buy it anymore. Miss the big 10 plus pound seeded ones....more an more we get the small seedless ones in the stores that have no flavor.

Today's ducky distraction - we finally put up the Christmas tree - it is in the family room window facing the duck pen. The ducks have spent the morning doing the "ducky look" - presumably checking out the tree lights that weren't there before!

mine adore peas of course...and watermelon. I got a resounding NO on broccoli, it's still out there 24 hrs later. Chicken scratch any day.
Peaches no. Pears yes. apples eh so so.
Watermelon is so funny though. I just set a huge wedge out there for them and between the 2, its gone in a half hour.
feeder fish for the win. To bad their pool is frozen solid.

..lol...

yep, my 2 big ducks were a riot with the watermelon....even though they did good to get any. Dad likes it as much as they do. One of them would stab his beak into a big slice and get it stuck on his beak and be biting as if he were chewing while he's running around with this chunk of melon on his face..

too funny.

Today they got sushi. Big ducks have had it before...funny to watch them study food that moves. Confusing at first. Those 2 big ducks jumped right in there. I guess they DO have a memory. Its been 2 or 3 months since they saw live food.
The 2 little ones stood there looking in the bowl for a good 10 minutes. They had never seen lunch that moved. Once they studied and decided together that it IS food... it only took maybe 15-20 seconds to make all the fish vanish! Like a shark feeding frenzy...the only thing missing after 20 secs of splashing was a good burp afterwards..!

They never fail to entertain
