Hi, my chickens are young and have not started to lay eggs yet. They are close, but still not yet. Today I heard Cackling and found no eggs. Is that normal? Should I expect eggs soon?
Thanks for the help.

I find pullets become very vocal, and suddenly very friendly about a week or so before the first egg, so sounds like you are close.

The girls do tend to be more vocal and will even sing the "I laid an egg song" well before they really do lay. I had one, Mary, who would suddenly sing the egg song. I'd run out to see where she laid, but she didn't. She did that many times before her first egg. When she finally did lay an egg she sang so loud and for so long everyone sang with her, even the rooster Black Bart!

I have 1 BO, 1 Barnevelder, both about 21 weeks old, and 1 SLW, 13 weeks old. My first time raising chickens, and I’m loving it. My great granddaughter is 3 and she loves them, calls them her chickens and thanks me almost daily for buying them for her. It’s too cute!
