Cadled before Lockdown was already pipped HELP HELP

Cute! Congrats! I've had chicks go from pip to hatch in about 5 minutes and all the way up to 18 hours, which can be nerve wrecking! How's the second one doing now?
They both hatched all is fine the little fellow hatch a little after midnight. thanks for your advise I am going to stop freaking out everytime I go into lockdown. I am seeing that they are not as fragile as may seem LOL

Hatching can be nerve wrecking, I've done some incubator hatches myself, but at the end of the day I love my broodies LOL

When they go broody do they lay eggs while sitting on them and if they don't when will they start laying again? I only have 2 hens that are laying the rest are to young. how old are they before they start laying?

My hens stop laying when they start sitting. And I don't get another egg from them for a few months. Some hens wean their chicks after 6-7 weeks and some, like this broody I had earlier this year, will hang on to them until the are 4 months old! It really differs from hen to hen. Most of mine don't lay for around 3-4 months when they go broody and hatch chicks. I always cave in and give them eggs to hatch.
Hens can start laying from 16 weeks of age up to 24 weeks of age, depending on the breed.

My last batch or golden sex link started laying between 4 and 5 months. We got the feburary and were getting small eggs growing bigger everyday in June!! It was quite nice to be getting them early.

so if they go broody and you don't give them eggs what will they do just sit there?

I have a belgian d'uccle that is approximately 16 weeks so she should be ready soon and I have a white cochin and a cochin mix? that I don't know how old they are but I think they should be laying soon I also have a buff lace polish but she is scared of everybody so I don't know if she will sit for the roosters she runs in circles every time she finds herself in the middle of all the others she is getting better though at first she would not go anywhere near any of them now she stays a few feet away from all of them and will sunbathe with them but she is to young I also have a seabright and a grey japanese bantam all to young they are about 3 months

Some hens will. Most will steal eggs from the other hens to sit on and some would march around clucking until you get tired of them and give them some eggs. LOL If you give a broody a golf ball she'll sit on it too. Some members here who don't have roosters to fertilise the eggs, give their broodies fake eggs to sit on for 3 weeks and then replace then with chicks.
