I just today noticed what I think is caked poop on one of my 19 month old hens. a second hen is a little crusty. Seems to just be on fluffy part nit covering vent. I fed them pumpkin last week. We've also had a lot of rain lately… looking to see if tnis could be a illness or if they just need cleaning. i have 6 girls in my flock. All others seem fine. These 2 are Plymouths…

You can take her and try pulling off any dried droppings, and trim away any excess fluff. Is isn’t good to bathe them unless you can bring them inside, and dry them before putting them back out side. If you do that use warm soapy water and dry with a towel and hairdryer. Messy bottoms can be common if they drink a lot of water or if they have some runny poop that gets stuck on the way down. Make sure the vent is clear once you have cleaned her up. Occasionally there might be a prolapsed vent or broken egg.
