Glad you joined.No. She is 2 1/2 years. I knew her laying would slow down but when her shells started getting thinner I was worried and started adding more oyster shell. This week seems slightly better but I don’t want her to get run down.Welcome to BYC.
Is she a brand new layer?
No she’s 2 1/2 years. She started off strong and had stayed this way until this summer. I was gone most of the summer and I don’t trust my family to take care of them the way I do.Hello and welcome to BYC!Glad you joined.
If she is a new layer it takes time for them to work the kinks out of their system.
Welcome to BYC! I don't know much about ducks and their egg cycles. I have a hen who started laying thin shelled eggs at about that age and now a year later doesn't lay at all. For her, it was just the end of her egg laying life. Now she is the wise one of the flock and will live out her life showing other hens and cockerels how to be a Lady.
I would keep crushed oyster shells available in a dish.... do you know if she ate her regular feed while your family was looking after her?
