Calibrating a Digital Thermometer/Hygrometer

Ok guys, I have a surprise!!

I calibrated overnight and it came out at 75%. Whoo hoo mine is actually right . . . well at least one is. The other one was 73%. but I can deal with that.

I figure keep the right one in the hatcher and the wrong one in the other. I figure it is more important to have perfect humidity during lockdown than the first 18 days.

The temps were exactly the same too. That surprised me considering they usually aren't. I can set them side by side in front of me and the differ about 2 whole degrees. I keep a mercury thermometor in each bator just in case. I trust them a lot more than the digital.

this is it guys...guess we are all ready....so...tonight...hmmmmm I say maybe 8pm...we need a thread called:

WE HAVE SET OUR EGGS....

and all of us post in that one to see how we are all doing...so who is going to start that thread??? one person...or we will end up with a million post and be going back and forth between all of them...

They go into lockdown tomorrow.

I bought a new bator just to hatch in.

I also wanted to make sure it was reliable. My other two bators are about 25 yrs. old. My grandpa had them in storage for 20 yrs. I plugged them in and they work great. I had a time when the temp spiked, but found out that was because they were almost ready to hatch. It was just a couple of days ago. I adjusted and haven't had a problem since. He traded them to me for a constant supply of fresh eggs. My grandma can't eat store eggs because they get old too fast. She is on chemo and has to have the freshest eggs possible. I'd have just given them the eggs but he showed up on my doorstep with two bators.

How could a girl turn that down. I was just discussing that morning that I need a bator and he showed up with them.

He is also giving me the tin to build a new coop so I can increase my flock. I love my grandpa.

He is the greatest.

35-38% for 1-18days...then bump it up...is the goal...so they can evaporate in the shell...I was keeping it at not higher than 55%, staying at 40-46%, and everything Ive read and what my coach said was 35-38% is very good....

my hygrometer is calibrated and the temp is correct but the humidty is 7% low on the reading...so I now have something to work with.

if its lower you mean:

your meter reads lets say 32%...but you know its off by 7%...then add it to the 32 which means the actual reading is 39%...they are all off by some %.

Mine is off by 8% so I add that to every reading.
