Calico Cochin Thread

My Calico breeding goes much slower than my other breeding projects. I just do not put as much time and effort into that program. Here is a possible pullet that will be good to use but she may be sold before I ever get her into breeding. I am not sure I like her type well enough to keep for myself.

I have a pair of Bo Garret lf black mottled cochins. i'm looking for some bantam calico eggs. I will swap 6+ of these mottled eggs for 6 calico eggs for the Easter hatch. I do have one solid blue girl in with them as well so her babies would carry the mottled gene.

okay so I'm new at this Ive never started a project pen, but I'm planning on getting a calico pen started. I have a calico roo he is my pride and joy haven't named him yet though, and A mille fleur roo over buff Colombian hens. Am i going the right way with these? I have my mottled roo i there too but I'm thinking i may need to take him out. Be honest wont hurt my feelings if I'm gonna do this i wanna do it right. I'm getting to more younger roos that's color i like better thinking of letting the mille fleur go i like the blonde in my other roo better his red is too dark for me. Advice needed please!

You have 2 beautiful boys there. If you are trying for calico you would want to breed the lightest birds together. If you want Mille Fluer, you should use your top boy or mottled roo. But in both of these to projects you have to remember you want to mainly breed for type. Color and pattern will come sooner or later.

Well a roo shouldn't be hard to find! I have several cockerels available, I'm sure everyone else does too
