California chicken enthusiests.. where do you get your birds?

I have two hens out of my F2 pen that JUST started laying. That pen is mottled hens split to mille fleur, in with a dark spotted mille fleur rooster. Then there is one hen just started laying last week in the F3 pen, which is all mille fleur pullets in with a mille fleur cockerel and a mottled F1 roo with KILLER good rounded cushion. So I am not getting three eggs a day, but some days I do. Most days one or two. Shouldn't be too long before more of them kick in and speed up the assembly line though...

I just wanted to say hi!

Come March, the rural ACE Hardware Store in Los Gatos starts selling chicks. I got my first flock from them! Also, Sam's Feed store in San Jose will order chicks for you. I think this is in a few months as well.

my neighbor got his chickens from Tru North, and they are wonderful. (One of them came to visit for a day once, and she was a sweetie, and gorgeous!) A thought on the price..... If I could buy my chickens from someone who charged more, but the birds were healthier, I would not see it as expensive.

Expensive was when I bought a feed store BO, watched her get EYP, treated her with antibiotics and a vet visit, only to watch her decline and die. Now THAT was expensive.

Tru North sounds like a bargain. I will be checking into them, if I don't get any pullets from my John Blehm Ameraucana order.

Los Gatos Rural Supply has baby chicks NOW! They start getting them just after valentine's day. Just yesterday they had a good collection of tiny buff orps.
