California Greys???

I created a California Grey Breed page here on BYC.. Chickluver and anyone else with CA greys in your flock can you post pics of yours and write a review? Michael if you can do the same when you get yours it will be great and I will do the same.

I have never been drawn to barred birds but I am super excited about my CA Grey girls!

Sure I will. From chick stage to adult will be documented. I've always appreciated barred patterns. I've had Barred Rocks (hard to find good egg producing stock anymore) and Cuckoo Marans. The one Maran hen I have lays an egg almost everyday and she's 3 years now. I lucked out with her.

Weird... here is the link but it doesn't seem to be working.

I don't know why but I had a hard time finding it too. I had to click on the "add something" button on the right of the breeds page and do a search then it came up. Maybe it is somehow misfiled. I will keep working on it but it should come up if you do the "add something" search

OK try again, I think the bug is worked out. Go to https://www.backyardchickens.com/products/california-grey alternatively you can go to the breeds section, click on "last" and it will take you to the last page and there they are.

Let me know if it doesn't work for you.

Chickluvr and oldtimeway know more than I do but he looks like it to me. His tail and his coloring both make me think he could be a CG because he looks like pics I have seen. If you put him over a white leghorn do you get a CA White?? That would be one test ;-)

Oh ETA he is quite handsome!

Look at this pic of a CA Grey roo from Caclke Hatchery's page...they don't carry them but the carry CA whites so I assume this is one of their breed stock. Anyway, your roo has the same short back and upright tail...though he looks a little darker in your pic. Anyone else??

Sure will. I will be pushing it to get some chicks out of them this year but they are january hatch so maybe. Next year i want to either hatch some F2 CWs and keep some blacks and barred, or breed best f1 pullets back to this cock. Then maybe do it all over with some other unrelated or atleast distant leghorns. That is, unless i decide i dont like messing with leghorn type chickens.
