I'm still debating on whether to try them out on the vinyl coated .5" wire. I made my brooder with the option of inserting a floor board on top of the wire floor for use of shavings (which I have now). I think the floor board keeps the heat in the brooder better for now.

Looking good Michael!

I think they are too even in the ugly adolescent stage. I'm quite sure I have 4 cockerels out of 13, so it ain't bad. Some folks want the cockerels to eventually cross with a Leghorn hen to get a California White. We'll see who wants them. They are all healthy and growing vigorously while establishing the pecking order. They really gobble up the King Feeds Organic Start and Grow. It has been been very windy in the afternoons so I've been locking them in early. High 60's today, so it's a good day for testing those wings and other spastic activity.

I'm holding on to a Cali. grey cock to breed to my WL pullets. I'm thinking down the road I can have cuckoo leghorns, black leghorns. (I know they won't be considered pure leghorns). I might even run the same cross again further down the road once I get another Cuckoo cock. That's looking too far down the road though. :)

The California White is the CA Grey cock crossed with a WL Hen. That might make for a spastic breed. I don't know anyone who has CA Whites. These CA Greys are startled easily and are flighty, but warm up quickly. I say this as someone who has always had Rocks and Wyandottes which are the opposite; always under foot.
