Yea not a problem here either but I lived in San Joaquin Valley for several years. Once we went with fog so bad we were at 1/4 mile or less visibility for 28 days straight.

Yeah the fog here is far from funny.

Weird. I swear it's colder in my house than outside. I need to find a chick friendly place where it's like in the 70's all day and night. The cold makes me hurt.

In the highlands of Ecuador it's in the 70's year round!

Just wanted to post a few last minute things for everyone who is planning on attending the Chickenstock tomorrow.

1.) A map to the Zoo. It's very easy to get to as it's literally just off the 580 freeway.

zoomap.jpg

When you enter the Zoo you will stop at a booth and have to pay for parking, after you leave the booth take the first left. Our picnic site Lion Lookout and should be very easy to find. Look for the big BYC banner, hopefully Nifty will show up a little early and we can set the banner up to help folks navigate their way to the location... hint, hint.

2.) Parking is $7 per vehicle.

3.) Wear layers! We're expecting crisp fall weather in Oakland tomorrow, so make sure you wear clothes that you will be comfortably warm in. However the weather here can change suddenly so don't bundle up in a parka and furs...

Here is the most recent forecast for tomorrow.

We should be dry all through the event (

) but clouds will most likely start rolling in as the party winds down. Just in case the weather turns poor, please check this thread tomorrow morning before you leave your homes. I will be up early and make sure everyone knows whether or not the party is going to happen as scheduled or if we have to cancel the event due to rain. As of right now we are still planning on having the Chickenstock!

Just please, check for updates tomorrow before you head to Oakland.

4.) My contact info, for anyone who might get turned around and lost is as follows.

A Blue Wheaten Ameraucana, I call her Periwinkle, she's from my breeding this year.

I wanted to send an update on feeding my chickens. I was able to get a bag of Magill Non soy Non corn layer feed from Azure Standard. Azure has drop locations in Nor Cal. I was able to join the one in Vacaville. There is one in Woodland, but they aren't allowing more to join it.

The feed has peas and fish meal. It does smell like fish, but I have been using it for a week and the eggs taste great! The chickens prefer it over the Modesto Mills feed and are eating and pooping less. Last month I added light to the coops, and on Monday and Tuesday I got 9 eggs out of 11 hens/pullets. One of my two one year old hens started to molt two weeks ago, but just lost her black tail feathers and looked a bit scruffy. She has been laying an egg a day since last Thursday and the tail feathers are already growing back.

So, the feed cost is seven dollars less than the modesto mills feed and they are converting it better. Next month I will buy two of these along with a bag of Chicken Wheat. They sell it for thirteen dollars for 50 pounds. I add Ultra kibble to it and put it into the feeder in their coop along with free choice calcium. Great for the chickens and economical--I get the Ultra kibble from Ozbo since they charge $4.99 shipping. Jeffer's wants $25.00 to ship it. It is mixed at a 5 to one ratio by weight. Azure sent me a free bag last month when they were out of stock for the Magill feed. I did not know such a thing existed

I have two eggs left from a 10+ auction of Lemon Cuckoo Orpington eggs. They are in lockdown and day 21 is Saturday. This is my first hatch

Of course I am already looking into getting more eggs. There is a lady in Rio Linda that works with the Everta Feed Store that sells Hatching eggs for a dollar a piece. I will try a dozen of those to practice with. The ones from ebay were a bit more expensive and had to be shipped.

Bye,

Ron

Jeremy, love that blue egg and Toby's smile!

Ron,
Great to hear about your results with feed. I'm constantly agonizing and changing my poor chickens' feed. They also did not do well on Modesto Organic. I've considered Cascade but I'm so tired of switching.

Best of luck with your hatch! I have some highly desirable eggs being incubated by a friend in Redwood City. So I will

If you enjoy doing it, maybe you could hatch some Dorks for me, next year?
