California - Northern

all five of my younger birds (two basques, two CLs, and amelia) are still a good bit smaller in size than the 30-week-olds (and the two sussexes, who are 4 weeks younger than the other "older" birds but just as large), with very light combs, so they don't seem ready to lay any time soon -- but the big girls might start, now that the sun's out a wee bit more again!

and similarly SO tempted by the idea of some peafowl... but no place to house them at this point.

Hahahahah! Your grumpy neighbor would really love that! We had peacock show up at our place when I was a kid. Sooo beautiful and not too noisy. He hung out with the chickens and roosted in the trees at night. Was around for years until he decided to head back up the road where he came from.

your nasty neighbor would be really peeved if you got peas. There are several living wild in our hood and boy they are loud, but I do love em. I would love a pair but want to make sure they will get along with my chickens. My guineas bully my roosters, which does not make me happy. I wonder if Peas get along well with chickens.

in my ideal world, my OTHER neighbor (the one who also has chickens, including a rooster now) would get the peafowl, then i could blame any extra noise on him. and they could roost in my oak trees! but i don't know whether they get along with chickens -- i've certainly got loads of wild turkeys (similar size to peafowl?) wandering through my meadow, & they and the chicklets just ignore each other...

House update. after snow almost whipped out the chance of us getting the place.
Our realtor made it happen !!! we got our Roof Cert and will get our place !
That is great news!

Now as long as the Hawk does not hitch a ride.....
