California - Northern

Good Morning,
I just posted 4 of my silkies on CL this morning. But, if there is anyone on this thread that is interested or has a question, let me know. I would MUCH rather give my birds to people that know how to care for them (and will give them a great home) than to sell to strangers on CL!

They are all 3 months old and cockerels (95% sure). However, the black and one of the whites are looking super and are from SQ parents. I wish I could at least keep those 2 or home them someplace where I could get their offspring in the future. Both of the whites are nice, but one has a crooked toe so he probably won't be showable but would be BQ. He is the one in charge of this little flock. I could possibly deliver them to the right person on a mini-vacation or day-trip! I can keep them awhile longer and save them if someone is interested.
Here are some pictures to entice you....

And a baby picture...
I am interested in the black one.... My mom is going to Tahoe today, perhaps I can talk her into picking him up on her way back.. LOL I live in Novato, (Marin County) Thanks...

I currently have one black and one blue Silkie hen, both from SQ lines. I'd be happy to give you eggs down the road.

juststruttin, that sounds great. Let me know when and if your Mom is willing to get Licorice. I seem to name my silkies after sweet foods for some reason-LOL!
Licorice is from a black/blue pen of MRobbins in Georgia. I hatched the eggs out in early October. He would make a perfect boyfriend for your hens but still has a lot of growing to do. I predict that he'll be gorgeous and he is very easy to handle. I currently have just 1 dark blue hen and a splash rooster. I would really like to get more girls in the bbs pen before hanging onto boys......even if they look as good as Licorice. Keep in touch, Darla

I plan on using the dog kennel over my coop in the chicken yard. Probably buy another one to put over my other one.
I will be using the solar red light idea as well.
Can some of you post pic's of the angled fence? I was going to use no climb for the chicken runs and no climb in the garden which the runs will be in.
Angled fence is what attaches to the posts of chain link fence correct? Then you run barbed wire? That may be to spendy for me.
Hope this helps

We left a strand of hot wire on top for added protection.

first egg!!!! most likely from one of the cuckoo marans -- and it seems like a regular-sized egg, not particularly small and pullet-ish?

so excited!!!

X2! What does it mean?

Does anyone know of a butcher that will process ducks in or near the Bay Area? It's time for me to thin my Saxony flock, I have 4 or 5 ducks that I will need processed. Any and all suggestions are welcome. Thank you all!
Sacramento was the closest processor I found. You could post on cl and see if someone without a license will do it for you. But there are no small processors, as to process more then one type of bird legally ( ie chickens and quail) you have to have be inspected, etc. If you find one closer let me know!

Our internet went out yesterday! How does that happen in San Jose, I feel like writing the mayor. Our phones use the internet to boost signal so it was an interesting day. Hope everyone is having a wonderful New Year!
(ooh! nice egg laura, jsut saw that, gratz!)
